Ever since my puberty years started, I had to start using itchy scalp shampoo as well. Having an itchy scalp can be very frustrating. I remember scratching my scalp all the time and my seatmate was looking at me like I am some kind of a lunatic. I couldn’t help it! It was so itchy and it just never stops. So I decided to use a shampoo formulated for people with such problem. To my dismay, it took me a long time to find the perfect shampoo for my scalp. Some shampoos I have tried made my condition worse and sometimes when I scratch my scalp, I would see little specks of blood. If you suffer with such condition as mine, here are my tips for you on how to find the perfect shampoo for your itchy scalp.

Choosing the Right Itchy Scalp Shampoo

Itchy Scalp ShampooA lot of drugstores or department store brands carry a wide range and brands of shampoos for itchy scalp. But unfortunately, not all of them will work to your advantage. And worse, some of them might aggravate your condition. This is why I highly suggest that you use over the counter shampoos instead. These shampoos are specifically formulated with chemicals or ingredients that have been tried and tested to work for most people with itchy scalp. There is a great chance that this will work better for you than buying department store brands. Neutrogena T-gel Shampoo or Nizoral AD are two of my most trusted shampoos for itchy scalp and I can attest that they really do their job well. But if you don’t want to use chemically formulated shampoos like I mentioned, you can always try organic ones. I have found these to be gentle on the scalp calming any inflammation and keep the itch under control.

How to Shampoo Itchy Scalp Properly

Aside from using the right products, it is important also that people with itchy scalp know how to shampoo their scalp properly. I highly suggest gentle massages. This will help calm the scalp and prevent it from itching too much. Avoid scrubbing it really hard because that might only aggravate the condition. Scrubbing too much can scrape the natural oils in your scalp leading to further irritation and flaking. If you are using chemically formulates shampoos, leave it on your scalp for about 5 minutes for it to work its magic on your scalp.

See your Dermatologist

Itchy Scalp ShampooUnfortunately, no matter how much you try to eradicate the itchiness of your scalp, some people were not successful in doing so. If using such shampoos are not enough and severe irritation still occurs, it is best that you talk to your dermatologist. A prescriptive corticosteroid might be prescribed. If bleeding, pus and pain are observed, go see your dermatologist immediately.
